My husband and I overcame 8 years of infertility and were blessed with Lil Man in May of 2010. Lil Man lost "too much" weight and I was told to supplement. Through advice I feel was wrong, and a son who did not like to eat/comfort nurse and a struggle with PCOS I have suffered with low supply and continue my nursing relationship as a Combo Feeder.

Growing up I never gave much thought about breastfeeding. I knew it existed, but I never knew anybody who nursed and I never saw people nurse in public. Before I became a mother, nursing was something “other people” did. All my preconceived notions went out the window when I attended a breastfeeding class while pregnant. Suddenly I began to grasp the importance and normalness of nursing. Unfortunately enthusiasm didn’t translate into practical knowledge and after a rocky start (including a short NICU stay) I gave into bottle preference and exclusively pumped for just under a year. In the interim of baby 1 and baby 2 I read anything breastfeeding related. With my second daughter I was determined, I wasn’t going to “try” to breastfeed, I was going to succeed!

Three short months after getting married my husband and I were suprised with a positive HPT and in July of 2005 were blessed with our first little girl "A". Being uninformed, having a little one whoe enjoyed the bottle way more thean the breast, and fighting a low supply I stopped breastfeeding when she was 5 months.

We were blessed again with our second little girl "B" in May of 2009. I fought a low supply again, asked more questions and received lots of help from the LCs. I was able to exclusively breastfeed for 7 months and combo fed until B was 8 1/2 months old.

In August 2011, I was shocked to learn that baby #3 was on the way and will be arriving in April 2012.

A Thought On Breastmilk

"When we trust the makers of baby formula more than we do our own ability to nourish our babies, we lose a chance to claim an aspect of our power as women. Thinking that baby formula is as good as breast milk is believing that thirty years of technology is superior to three million years of nature's evolution.
